We’ve already written about many of the attractive new features of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan that will be arriving at U.S. dealerships later this year (like the all-new Mercedes-Benz User Experience infotainment system with touchscreen and voice controls), but there is a lot more to look forward to with the new A-Class. This new compact sedan will also offer advanced driver assistance features, including semi-autonomous driving in certain conditions. Learn more about 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class safety features below.
2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class Safety Features
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class will feature many driver assistance features that are standard across the Mercedes-Benz lineup, but it will also boast some advantages that were perfected on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class flagship sedan. The A-Class will have improved camera and radar systems, and will also be able to use advanced mapping and navigation information to anticipate assistance.
Active Brake Assist
This standard feature can automatically brake in an emergency situation to minimize the damage that happens after a rear-end collision. Pedestrian and bicyclist detection can also help drivers avoid accidents by detecting their hard-to-notice movements. This feature is complimented by Active Emergency Stop Assist.
Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC®
This adaptive cruise control system uses route data to automatically adjust speeds on curves and roundabouts.
Active Lane Keeping Assist and Active Lane Change Assist
These two features can help warn drivers if they are drifting out of their lane, and in some cases bring the vehicle back into the lane autonomously.
While traditional PRESAFE®* does things like close the windows and tighten seatbelts to get passengers into the safest position before a cash, the PRESAFE® PLUS option applies the brakes in a rear-end collision situation to minimize further damage.
Passive Protection Features
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class also comes with several passive safety features like a rigid structure designed to offer maximum protection to passengers, and extensive airbags that even covered the A-pillar and the driver’s knee area.

*PRESAFE® closes the side windows when the system’s sensors detect side movements that suggest a possible rollover. A small gap is left near the fully closed position. Seat and head restraints adjust only when equipped with memory system.
