We’ve written before about some of the elite driver assistance features available on new Mercede-Benz vehicles. However, in that blog we focused on some of the models that flirt with the line between normal warning systems and autonomous driving. In this blog, we wanted to look at a much more common, and just as valuable feature: PRESAFE®. But what is Mercedes-Benz PRESAFE®?
What is Mercedes-Benz PRESAFE®?
While other driver assistance features help drivers avoid accidents, PRESAFE® is specifically designed to minimize injury if the worst should happen. This system can sense when a collision might be about to happen (such as when there is extreme skidding) and it helps put the driver and passengers into the best position to survive a crash with minimal injuries. Some things that a properly equipped Mercedes-Benz with PRESAFE® can do include tightening front seat belts, adjusting head restraints, and closing windows*.
PRESAFE® Sound Protects Hearing
In addition to PRESAFE®, some Mercedes-Benz vehicles are also equipped with PRESAFE® Sound which works to protect occupants’ hearing from the loud and damaging sound of a crash. It does this by making a harmless noise that triggers the inner ear to protect itself against the coming impact and loud noises.
What Mercedes-Benz vehicles have PRESAFE®?
A majority of new Mercedes-Benz vehicles either come standard with PRESAFE® or are available with this feature with an optional package. Mercedes-Benz models available with PRESAFE® include Mercedes-Benz C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, CLA, CLS, GLA, GLC, GLE, GLS, G-Class, SLC, SL, and GT. Select models were available with this feature as early as 2002, though it was not standard until later.

*PRESAFE® closes the side windows when the system’s sensors detect side movements that suggest a possible rollover. A small gap is left near the fully closed position. Seat and head restraints adjust only when equipped with memory system.
