Those seeking the epitome of automotive luxury may be attracted to the flagship sedans of the iconic Mercedes-Benz and BMW brands. Drivers who choose the S-Class, or a 7 Series, can be sure they are getting the elite option in these two vehicle lineups. In this 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class vs 2018 BMW 7 Series comparison, we will look at how these two models compare.

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz S 450 has a higher starting price than the 2018 BMW 740i, but is also several advantages out of the gate. One of them is its 3.0-liter V-6 biturbo engine that offers 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, compared to just 320 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque with the 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder on the 2018 BMW 740i. The Mercedes-Benz premium full-size sedan also offers a shade more cargo space in the trunk than its BMW rival.

Elite Performance on the 2018 Mercedes-AMG® S 63 and S 65

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class comes standard with elite luxury features. Heated, 16-way power-adjustable front seats with memory settings, two 12.3-inch display screens in the dash for the instrument cluster and infotainment system, and a 64-color LED interior lighting system with three separate zones are some of the highlights. While the BMW 7 Series offers many attractive features, it does fall short in some areas. For example, it offers selectable interior lighting, but doesn’t offer 64 options. Mercedes-Benz is also the only manufacturer to currently offer ENERGIZING Comfort Control, which features six ten-minute programs to help drivers relax or become more energized.

Both of these models are also available with an elite performance option, but even there the Mercedes-Benz S-Class excels. The 2018 Mercedes-AMG® S 63 Sedan offers up to 603 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque, while the 2018 Mercedes-AMG® S 65 Sedan can crank out 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. In contrast, the V-12 on the 2018 BMW M760i offers just 601 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque.
